ShiftRows: cyclic shift of rows in the state matrix (0, 1, 2, 3 bytes). MixColumns: multiplication of columns by a fixed matrix in GF(2⁸). Ensure diffusion (spreading the influence of one bit across the block) in 2-3 rounds
