Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951), 'Tractatus' (1921). Language is a picture of the world: propositions depict facts. The logical structure of language equals the structure of the world. 'Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent' (last aphorism 7). Ethics and aesthetics are beyond language.
