Sliding filament theory (Huxley, 1954). 1) Action potential → ↑Ca²⁺ from sarcoplasmic reticulum. 2) Ca²⁺ → troponin → opens actin binding sites. 3) Myosin heads + ATP → power strokes → actin filaments slide toward the center of the sarcomere → shortening. 4) ↓Ca²⁺ → relaxation
