Novgorod signed a treaty with Lithuanian King Casimir IV. Ivan III mobilized his army, defeating the numerically superior Novgorod militia at the Shelon River. The battle was influenced by betrayal within the Novgorod ranks and ended with a peace treaty severing ties with Lithuania.
