In August 1935, miner Alexey Stakhanov extracted 102 tons of coal in a shift, far exceeding the norm. This sparked a campaign to increase productivity across industries. While it aimed to boost labor intensity, it also led to unrealistic quotas and persecution of those who failed to meet them
