⚔️Byzantium and the Crusaders
Alexius I Comnenus expected mercenaries but received an army. He demanded a pledge of vassalage to return all lands taken from the Turks to Byzantium. The crusaders reluctantly swore. Byzantium supplied provisions, but relations were tense. Later, the crusaders accused Byzantium of betrayal.
