The birth of AI as a discipline. John McCarthy coined the term "artificial intelligence". Participants included Marvin Minsky, Claude Shannon, and Nathaniel Rochester. The goal was to describe every aspect of learning so precisely that a machine could imitate it, with optimism for human-level intelligence in 20 years
