Ferdinand Magellan (a Portuguese in the service of Spain) set sail (20.09.1519, 5 ships, 265 men). Discovered the Strait of Magellan (1520) and crossed the Pacific Ocean (named it Pacífico — peaceful). Killed in the Philippines (27.04.1521). Juan Sebastián Elcano completed the voyage (6.09.1522, 1 ship, 18 men)
