A fleet of over 200 ships approached Constantinople. Venetian galleys and transport vessels. The crusaders saw the city: the massive Theodosian walls (double, 12 meters high), the Golden Horn (harbor, closed by a chain), palaces, and temples. They were shocked by its grandeur. 'No one can take such a city'.
