Second Crusade
An unsuccessful campaign (1147-1149) following the fall of Edessa (1144). Bernard of Clairvaux's preaching attracted kings Louis VII of France and Conrad III of Germany. The failed siege of Damascus (1148) turned the main ally of the crusaders into an enemy. The campaign ended in total failure
