A storm wrecked part of Richard's fleet near Cyprus. The self-proclaimed 'Emperor' Isaac Comnenus captured English knights and demanded ransom. Richard landed, defeated Isaac on May 6, and captured all of Cyprus in three weeks, gaining immense spoils. Cyprus became a Crusader base for 300 years
