The first assault on April 9 failed (Byzantines repelled it). The second assault on April 12 succeeded. Venetians captured towers on the sea walls. Crusaders broke through at the Petrion gates. Murtzuphl fled. The city fell on April 13, 1204. A three-day plunder ensued (the largest in history).
